The Challenge

The challenge of this project was to prototype a High Fidelity application within Figma or Adobe Xd that solved a particular problem. The problem that was identified was “How can the independence of early-stage dementia sufferers be prolonged through assistive technology?”. Upon initial research surrounding this target user and functional requirements it was evident that there were little to no applications that assisted with independence but were instead apps that were aimed at carers or were brain training apps for the patient. This app will therefore aimed to demonstrate how technology can help bridge the gap between patients and staff to improve the quality of life for the cognitively impaired

The Solution

By keeping the target user in mind, I was able to design this application with a number of accessibility requirments in mind. It was found that there is currently a need in geriatric facilities to stimulate dementia patients with technology. The best way to approach this is by creating apps catered for them. There are many ways this can be done but primarily the goal is to create an app that is simple to use. Therefore, short sentences, minimal layout, recognised symbols and overall ease of navigation provided the basis for developing the mobile app ‘InfoMed’.

The Delivery

The final delivery of the project inlcuded a High-Fidelity Mobile Application Prototype. Usability testing was undertaken with participants to gain insight and improve the application. Ultimately, through the Iterative Design Process I was able to develop 'Infomed' and submit as a final project for the unit, 'Human Factors for Interaction Design'.
